Google Wallet now available for kids phones

Google has announced that Google Wallet is now accessible for children using supported Android devices. It offers tap-to-pay functionality and digital pass storage under parental supervision.

The update allows kids to securely use tap-to-pay in stores and store items such as event tickets, library cards, and gift cards in their Google Wallet. The rollout includes new safety features designed to give parents full control over their child’s Wallet experience through the Google Family Link app.

Parents must authorise any payment card before it can be added to a child’s Wallet. Once authorised, they can monitor purchases, receive transaction alerts via email, remove cards remotely, and disable access to Wallet passes. The pass feature includes support for loyalty cards, boarding passes, and event tickets, but it can be entirely blocked by parents at any time.

Key controls available to parents include adding and removing payment cards and managing passes. Spending limits are not managed through Family Link but must be handled through the payment card issuer.

Only designated guardians can adjust Wallet permissions, and these controls are accessible through the Family Link app or at families.google.com. More detailed support is available through Google’s Help Centre. The update underscores Google’s focus on extending digital convenience to families while maintaining strict parental oversight.
