Ring research shows 1 in 3 Aussies are thinking about an upgrade to their home security

New research from smart home security company Ring reveals that 1 in 3 Australians (35%) are considering upgrading or installing home security systems ahead of the summer holidays. With many planning to travel or attend social events, more than 70% of Aussies expressed concern about leaving their homes unattended.

My family are long time users of Ring hardware and, have some pretty effective coverage around the home. I love the integration with some of my other smart home gear, and the fact that it’s got hardware with solid battery life and hardwired options. So when the information came about the study conducted about Aussies buying plans, it piqued my interest and made me think about how I can improve my home coverage.

The study highlights that 85% of Australians are taking proactive steps to protect their homes and belongings, including relying on neighbours (38%), avoiding social media travel updates (35%), and using existing security devices (33%).

Top Holiday Home Concerns include:

  1. Burglary – securing homes from intrusions.
  2. Damage & Parcel Theft (tied) – fire, leaks, and stolen packages.
  3. Pets’ Well-being & Checking in on Family (tied).

With holiday deliveries increasing, 35% of Australians expect more packages, raising fears of parcel theft. Likewise, 35% of pet owners reported feeling anxious about leaving pets alone for extended periods.

Over half of Australians (59%) are willing to spend $100 or more to secure their homes, with 16% prepared to pay “as much as it takes” for peace of mind. Smart features such as remote access, live video streaming, and motion detection notifications are highly valued, with over 60% preferring smartphone-connected systems.

Mark Fletcher, Ring Managing Director APAC, emphasized the importance of smart home solutions:

“As Australians spend more time travelling this summer, home security is top of mind. Ring helps protect homes, belongings, and even pets, offering peace of mind so people can enjoy time with loved ones.”

Ring’s top recommendations for securing homes include:

  • Double-checking all windows and doors.
  • Rescheduling regular deliveries to avoid a vacant appearance.
  • Using smart security devices for remote monitoring.
  • Creating an “occupied” look with timers for lights and sound.

With travel plans and deliveries at their peak, Ring encourages Australians to consider investing in smart security solutions to safeguard their homes this summer.
