Quad Lock just became my favourite case and mount combination

There are many case and mount options on the market, but many of them have problems. There is, of course, MagSafe in the Apple ecosystem, which is great if you’ve got an iPhone. There are more generic options that lack the quality, and often, more specific cases would require you to get a new mount if you change phones.

Unless you’re prepared to spend a bit more money to get a lot more from your case and mounts: That’s why I decided to take a look at Quad Lock.

Cases for most popular devices and mounts to suit almost anything

As a starting point, there are cases for what I would label the most popular brands and phones; this covers, of course, Apple gear back to the iPhone 5. If you’re a Samsung Galaxy SX user, you’re in luck too, as are Pixel users, although there is a universal adaptor – I’ve not tested it so can’t verify whether it’s worth the investment.

More recently, Quad Lock has also added some action camera mounts to their offerings; adding some versatility to your investment too.

I feel like this is actually a really good option in terms of device coverage, as it covers the “mass market” and doesn’t require huge time investment to cover the small percentage of cheaper devices.

For me: The Pixel 8 Pro Mag case I picked up was pretty reasonable at $49.95, a price that’s pretty consistent for more recent devices.

Mounts – There are so many options, it’s overwhelming!

If you can think of somewhere on a bike, car, or other outdoor activity where you’d like to mount your phone for easy access, then there’s one here. Multiple options for motorbikes including handlebar mounts, mirror, fork stem and brake reservoir mounts; all with or without wireless charging options and magnetic mounting.

If you like having something solid around you on the road, you can get a suction windscreen or dash mount, an adhesive dash mount, or a new vent mount in the car; again, all can be with or without magnetic mounting and wireless charging options.

I just wasn’t prepared for the crazy number of mounting options that Quad Lock has available.

I decided to grab a couple of options, one for my desk and one for the car, so I grabbed a Desk Mount with MAG Wireless Charging and a Vent Mount with MAG head for the car. Purely because I could, I grabbed a blue ring at checkout because I liked the colour.

All totalled, the order was just shy of $230.00

Shipping, setup and daily use

Let’s get into that good ol’ customer service talk because I’m actually pretty impressed. I ordered on a Sunday evening and received an order confirmation immediately. The next day, before the close of business, I received a packing confirmation and note that shipping details would be available shortly.

On Tuesday, I received the shipping details, and to my surprise, the package arrived just two days later, on Thursday. That’s not the first time Australia Post has been prompt with delivery, but it wouldn’t have surprised me to see the package go for a lap around Australia before it landed at my house.

Credit to Quad Lock – All of the packaging for my order was recyclable!

Moving past the unpacking and environmental sustainability of recyclable packaging, the setup was super easy too. The case was — predictably — just a snap-on device, and you’re off. What I have really been impressed with so far is the feel of the case, which has a matte look and smooth (but not slippery) surface. It does add a bit of bulk to the device, but given the battering my phones tend to get, the $49.95 for the case as a stand-alone item was worth the money.

What I’ve liked more than just the case is the compatibility across various accessories. As mentioned, I grabbed a Desk Mount with MAG wireless charging, and it’s been wonderful. It fits perfectly on my desk within arms’ reach, is easy to access, and is still out of the way. The charging is a great way to keep my phone battery topped up throughout the day despite heavy use.

Then, moving to the car, the MAG case comes into its own when you merely have to wave your phone in the right area for it to grab and attach to the mount. As I’m sometimes in a hurry, this is a huge time saver for me as I can then plug the cable for my Android Auto head unit in easily as I back out of the driveway. At the other end of my journey, a quick pull on the cable and a tilt of the phone has me on the move again in seconds.

This is where I wish—a fault in my decision, not the vent mount—I had gone with the adhesive dash mount to raise the phone’s height when mounted instead of the vent mount. Specifically, because the vents in my car aren’t in super convenient positions; they’re either on the door frame, making my phone vulnerable to falling out when I open the door, or they’re blocking my view of my head unit for Android Auto.

With all of that being said, I’m not unhappy with the vent mount, given the speed of mounting and the convenience of it. I’ve got it just above my head unit, leaving me with quick attachment and plug-in access to get moving.

Closing thoughts: I’d recommend it without hesitation

I haven’t gone all in on Quadlock yet, but I’ll do it because I’ve been so impressed with the setup. I’m pretty sure there’s a mount for my bike in the future and a mag wallet to carry some necessary cards.

Quad Lock is pretty popular for users looking to mount their phone to a bike, outdoor equipment or even in your car. What’s caught me is just how broadly functional it is, with desktop charging and the cases being really good at protecting your devices.
