Proton has announced the launch of Proton Scribe, an AI writing assistant integrated into Proton Mail. Unlike typical AI tools, Proton Scribe prioritises user privacy by employing local AI technology, ensuring that user data never leaves their device.
Proton Scribe offers a suite of features to enhance productivity, including composing emails based on prompts, proofreading content, correcting grammar and spelling, and adjusting the tone of emails. The tool is designed to operate entirely on the user’s device, thanks to Proton’s zero-access encryption and strict privacy policies. No user data is used to train Proton Scribe, nor is it shared with third parties.
Proton Scribe is built on open-source models, allowing for independent security and privacy audits. This ensures transparency and trust in its privacy-first approach.
“We realized that users will use AI regardless of privacy risks, so we built Proton Scribe to provide a secure alternative,”
said Proton founder Andy Yen.
“Our approach ensures that users don’t have to choose between privacy and productivity.”
Initially available to Proton Mail business customers for US$2.99 per user per month, Proton Scribe is also free for existing Proton Visionary and Lifetime subscribers. The service is being rolled out on Proton Mail’s web and desktop apps.
This launch underscores Proton’s commitment to delivering tools that balance privacy and productivity, continuing its mission to protect over 100 million user accounts and more than 50,000 businesses worldwide.
