Movember – Raising money and awareness for mens health issues

So this year I have decided to do another round of Movember which is focussed on men’s health issues, particularly prostate cancer and depression. What really spurred me on this time round is my my Dad and my son. Dad because he’s just finished his treatment for prostate cancer and soldiered through it really well and my boy because I hope he never has to go through anything like it.

I sent out this email to my friends, family and colleagues hoping to raise around $500 for the cause:

Over the last 12 months or so due to a number of factors including my Dad’s diagnosis with Prostate cancer, I’ve become more aware of Mens health issues. With this in mind I decided to participate in Movember and let others know it’s time to focus on men’s health. To show my commitment, I’m donating my face to the cause by growing a moustache for the entire month of November, and need your support. My Mo will spark conversations, and no doubt generate some laughs; all in the name of raising vital awareness and funds for prostate cancer and male mental health.

Why am I so passionate about men’s health?
*1 in 9 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime
*This year 20,000 new cases of the disease will be diagnosed
*1 in 8 men will experience depression in their lifetime

I’m asking you to support my Movember efforts by making a donation by either:
*Donating online at: http://mobro.co/philtann
*Writing a cheque payable to ‘Movember,’ referencing my Registration ID: 4791461 and mailing it to: Movember, PO Box 60, East Melbourne, VIC, 8002

Funds raised will help make a tangible difference to the lives of others. Through the Movember Foundation and its men’s health partners, the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia and beyondblue: the national depression and anxiety initiative, they are funding world class research, educational and support programs which would otherwise not be possible.

If you’d like to find out more about the type of work you’d be helping to fund by supporting Movember, take a look at the Programs We Fund section on the Movember website: http://au.movember.com/about/funding-overview/

Thank you in advance for supporting my efforts to change the face of men’s health. All donations over $2 are tax deductible.

but I’ll put it on the line here and say that if I get $1000 I’ll shave my head too!
The result now is up to you, please think of the men in your life and how you’d feel if they had to endure treatment for cancer or depression. Every dollar makes a difference, you can donate HERE

Thank you.
